We have decide to have This vs That Tuesday and/or Thursday. Depends a bit on whether we are traveling or not, and the activity in the blog.

Today we’ll meet Rhonda from “Travel? Yes Please!

Travel? Yes Please!

First… tell us a bit about you:

I’m Rhonda and my husband Mike and I run the travel blog Travel? Yes Please! We live in Edmonton, Canada where we work full time, but also make it a priority to travel as much as possible, even if it is just a day trip to somewhere nearby!

I’ve loved travel ever since I was a child. My parents would always take us on weekend camping getaways and long summer road trips. It seemed like we were rarely home in the summer!

In grade eleven, I went to Europe for the first time on a school trip. I fell madly in love! Europe has been my favourite place to travel to ever since then. I can’t get enough!

Travel? Yes Please!

What do you prefer?

Mountain vs Coast
That’s a tough one, but I’m leaning more towards the mountains. I grew up only 3 hours away from Jasper National Park so the mountains were always a convenient place to travel to. Plus, I love being outdoors- hiking, bike riding, wildlife watching- so the mountains are a great vacation!

Charter vs Self organized
I’ve done both and prefer self-organized trips. When I’m on a tour, I always feel rushed and disappointed that I didn’t get to explore the city/country in depth. When I plan my own trip, I get to decide how much time I spend in a place. I like to spent at least 3 days in a major city. If I don’t like it, I can leave earlier, if I love it, I can stay longer! By self-organizing, I don’t have to be tied to someone else’s schedule and itinerary.

Summer vs Winter
Summer! In Edmonton, the winter is so long and depressing. We really only have 8 weeks of summer weather, if we’re lucky. So I try to take advantage of that and spend a lot of time outside before it snows again!

London vs Paris
That’s easy- Paris! I visited both cities on my first trip to Europe. I didn’t connect with London at all, but Paris made a lasting impression. We went back to Paris for part of our honeymoon and 15 years after my first visit, I still was in love. Paris is one city I could keep going back to again and again.

Beach vs City
Hmm…I’m not really a big city person, but I love to explore smaller European towns and villages. A beach vacation is okay once and a while. I like the sunshine, hot weather and going swimming, but after a few days I get bored and need to go exploring!

Hostel vs Hotel
Hotel. I only stayed in a hostel once, and while I liked the price, I missed having my own space. I just wish hotels were cheaper!

Explore on your own vs Guided tour
For the most part, I like to explore on my own! However, I will do a short walking tour every so often to learn a little more about the area.

Beach vs Pool
If it’s a beach by the ocean, I will choose that over the pool. But if it’s a lake beach, then I will pick a pool.

Asia vs Europe
Europe. Other than Japan, Asia isn’t a place I’m too interested in going to.

Taxi vs Public transport
I like taking subways. They are usually affordable and efficient, plus you don’t have to deal with traffic.

Backpack vs Suitcase
I have a rolling suitcase, but I got really tired of dragging it around Europe for five weeks. I was wishing I had a backpack!

Planning vs Spontaneity
I’m a big planner! I don’t want to waste valuable vacation time wondering about what to see, where to stay, how to get there etc. I like to have that all figured out before I leave so the trip can be as stress free as possible.

Australia vs USA
Another tough one! I can’t decide. There’s a lot of amazing parks I want to visit in the USA, but I’ve heard so many great things about Australia.

RV vs Tent
I have a tent, and enjoy it, but it’s so much work to road trip with it. It’s a pain to have to set it up every night and take it down every morning. I’d like to rent an RV one day.

Cruise vs Road trip
Road trip. I like being able to stop at little places along the way, plus I can follow my own itinerary/schedule.

Snorkeling vs Scuba
I don’t like either. I’ve tried both and always get very anxious! Plus, I’m afraid of sea creatures.

And at last, what is your favorite (travel) quote?

”The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page. – St. Augustine

  1. Really interesting format for an interview, especially when you see the differences between long term travellers like Rhonda.
