It’s Thursday and it’s time for a new interview in our This vs That series. In today’s post you’ll meet Ron and Michele from Legging It.
First… Tell us a bit about you:
We are Ron and Michele, two Australians in our fifties who decided to have a lifestyle change after our daughters left home and do some long term travelling. We traveled overland from Kuala Lumpur to Europe, where we have purchased a motorcycle and we will be continuing our adventures on two wheels from here.
What do you prefer?
Mountain vs Coast
Coast nothing like being near the ocean, it is something we have missed travelling overland for so long.
Charter vs Self organized
We definitely are self organized travellers, we went on an organized tour for our honeymoon (many years ago) and realized that we liked to do things at our own pace so all our travel from then on has been this way. This of course has been made a lot easier with the advent of the internet where you can find almost anything you need at the click of a button
Summer vs Winter
There is a place for both, we have been to Europe twice before in the winter. In Australia of course we don’t see much snow so for us it was interesting to experience it.
London vs Paris
Paris wins this one easily, there is something about Paris that makes you feel alive.
Beach vs City
Beach again there is something soothing about the water.
Hostel vs Hotel
We like a mixture of both but prefer small family run hotels over larger chain type one. Our true preference is couchsurfing, this gives us the chance to meet locals and spend time seeing a town from their perspective.
Explore on your own vs Guided tour
We generally explore on our own, we like wandering around without a map or guide book and seeing what we can find. That said we do enjoy walking tours as they often give you some unusual stories about somewhere too.
Beach vs Pool
We live near the beach and while we are travelling that is what we miss most, it seems we have not been near the beach for ages on our travels hopefully that will be rectified soon.
Asia vs Europe
Both have so much to offer it is impossible to choose.
Taxi vs Public transport
Definitely public transport, we have just completed travelling overland from Kuala Lumpur to Europe and it was an amazing experience. You are never sure of what you will get on public transport so it adds to the fun
Backpack vs Suitcase
Backpack, I find then you have both hands free to scramble onto transport with suitcases you are limited a bit more on what you can do.
Planning vs Spontaneity
A mixture, you sometimes need to plan due to visa restrictions etc but it is good to leave some place to be spontaneous.
Australia vs USA
Australia or course 😛
RV vs Tent
We did a lot of camping when our girls were younger, we were fortunate to travel a lot around Australia and this was mostly done in tents.
Cruise vs Road trip
Road trip anyday, you experience more of the local culture and are free to stop wherever you want to.
Snorkeling vs Scuba
Snorkeling (only because I have never done the other)
And at last, what is your favorite (travel) quote?
We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” ― Jawaharlal Nehru
