It’s time for a new This vs That Thursday! In today’s post we’ll meet Ashley from A Southern Gypsy.
First… tell us a bit about you:
I’m Ashley – a 27 year old from Nashville, Tennessee (USA). I’m currently preparing to travel long term. In October, I will drive cross country via the historic Route 66 to Los Angeles, California before boarding a flight for Thailand. I will be spending months in Southeast Asia, Australia and Samoa before heading off to somewhere else. My blog is focused around the outdoors, adventure and wildlife travel.
What do you prefer?
Mountain vs Coast
Anywhere outdoors. Hard to choose, but I’ll go with Mountain.
Charter vs Self organized
Self-organized. While Charter can be nice at certain times, I will 9 times out of 10, do my own planning and exploring.
Summer vs Winter
Summer. I don’t do well in cold weather. I’ll show up in layers upon layers.
London vs Paris
London. Paris was nice and I’d love to go back, but London will forever be one of my favorite places.
Beach vs City
I love both, but I prefer the outdoors most days.
Hostel vs Hotel
Hostel. That may change in a few years as I get older.
Explore on your own vs Guided tour
Explore on my own.
Beach vs Pool
Beach. I’ve never been a huge pool person.
Asia vs Europe
I’ve explored much more of Europe than Asia so far, but I’m leaving for Asia in November so I’ll go with Asia.
Taxi vs Public transport
Public transport. Specifically trains.
Backpack vs Suitcase
Backpack. Less is more.
Planning vs Spontaneity
Both. Planning is part of the fun, but spontaneity is how I usually go once I’m somewhere.
Australia vs USA
I’m from the US and never been to Australia so US.
RV vs Tent
Tent. I’m an old fashioned camper; however, I’d love to do an RV trip around the States.
Cruise vs Road trip
Roadtrip. More open to flexibility and options. Crusies can be nice though.
Snorkeling vs Scuba
Scuba Diving. Getting my certificiation in Thailand this fall.
And at last, what is your favorite (travel) quote?
“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain.” –Jack Kerouac
