There is no secret that we’re not a big fan of winter and cold weather, and in 2015 we had the opportunity to travel during Christmas time. With our stomachs stuffed with delicious food, candy and Christmas cookies we headed towards the airport and boarded the flight to Bali in Indonesia on Christmas Day. We stayed in a private villa with our own little pool; we explored the island with good help from a local guy and his buddy. They drove us around and showed us all of the places we wanted to visit.

We were also spending New Year’s Eve on this beautiful island and had to come up with something special! So months before our trip we booked a romantic New Years Dinner at Jimbaran Bay Beach Restaurant.
They picked us up at our villa and took us to Jimbaran Bay where the restaurant is located. And this was for sure the perfect way to celebrate the old year and say welcome the new one. On the beach it was a heart shape in the sand, and in that heart was our private table. Around us we had blossoms and candles, Balinese umbrellas and flags.

We were sitting there enjoying the sunset while having drinks and eating a 5 course dinner with great company in each other; walking down the memory lane, looking back of the great year of travels we had. That’s one of the best reasons to travel together, cause we can always talk about what we have experienced and share those lovely memories, even the bad ones. We can laugh about the weird things we have seen or experienced, discuss favourite places, and in general just talk about previous travels and travels in the future.

During the evening it was also some entertainment with Balinese dance now and then. We could go for a walk on the beach if we wanted to do so, or just enjoy the feel of warm sand between our toes and relaxing by our table. We could also buy fireworks from some sellers on the beach, and they would set it up for you while you enjoyed the sight of it.

Around midnight we had the perfect view overlooking the bay with fireworks all around. We couldn’t have wished for anything better, and will recommend this experience to everyone looking for a unique way to celebrate NYE.

When we felt satisfied with the evening one member of the staff drove us back to the villa where we spent the first days of the year before returning home – just had to have a quick stop in Singapore first.
